Ratio Design adding to the amazing architecture in Columbus, Indiana

Centra CU Headquarters - Architectural Photography by AJ Brown Imaging - Designed by Ratio Design

Yes, it seems random but Columbus, Indiana is a world renowned architectural hub and hot spot. Located pretty much smack dab in the middle of the midwest, just one hour south of Indianapolis, this small town towers above most cities. I recently had the opportunity to visit and shoot the Centra Credit Union’s freshly completed HQ designed by the well know Ratio Design out of Indianapolis, IN.

Check out these striking exterior architectural images we were able to capture. Architectural photographers pray for weather like this.

We spent 2 days photographing this building. The above 2 photos were taken in August. Shooting exteriors in August is amazing as you get plenty of directional sunlight illuminating the spaces inside and out.

These interior photographs were taken almost exactly one year before the exteriors. Why did we do this you ask? Well there are several factors worth considering when attempting to get the best possible architectural photography of your project. Of course every project is different and has it’s own list of challenges. For this shoot we decided to shoot the interiors one year before the exteriors because a major part of this project was the landscape architecture. We wanted to give the landscaping time to establish before shooting the exteriors. Water mitigation played a major role in the exterior architecture of this building. If you look at the second image above you will see that there is actually decking and elevated walking paths surrounding the exterior of the building with natural vegetation thriving below.

A second reason to break this photoshoot up is to have access to the spaces before anyone has actually moved in. This allows us to have full control of the interior spaces. We can populate and style everything exactly the way we want without disturbing the client as they go about their normal work day in their old building. Of course we can not always afford this luxury but when we can it is such a game changer.
